Wii HD, Download only games, Facebook games...yay or nay? (wall of text)

Wii HD imo makes no sense, especially if its coming out soon. If they show it early, good bye Wii sales. When it comes out, thats a big middle finger to Wii owners. Surely people will be pissed that they invest money into something that will now be in HD and all there previous stuff will look like ass. People really seem to think it's coming out and it might be, but I just don't see how it happening. Listening to the 1up 4 guys podcast that mug John Davidson (Editor of Game Pro Magazine) is convinced about this.

Then there is the whole download only space. Another thing the guys on the podcast seem to really be into. i'm well against it because of lack of game trading and competitive prices. E.g. if MW2 was download only it could have been like £54.99 and that was the only price. I wouldnt have gone near it. But with retail, people can change it up and you can get some good deals. And I don't fancy hanging onto a game I completed and will never play again, getting £10 for it and putting it towards something else is much better.

Then there is the space issue. If my PS3 was download only, I wouldnt be able to have all the games I currently own on it. Right now I am not limited in my purchases at all. And seeing how quickly my HDD got full with demo's alone, I don't see that working right this second. I guess 1TB HDD's are getting cheaper, but I just don't like having any limits like that.

Facebook games is something that was spoken about as possibly being the big big thing in a few years time. The fact that you could be ploaying it at home, at work, then with flash enabled phone browsers you could be playing the same game on the bus or train. In theory sounds pretty cool. But for what kind of games? Surely you wont get next-gen game quality through the browser. Not any time soon anyways. And until thats possible i'm not really into it. I know alot of people (mainly girls) love farmville and all that crap, but thats really not for me. I guess time will tell how likely any of this stuff is. Alot of advances in computer tech need to happen before any of this is possible though I think.

Where do you see gaming going in the next 5 years? Think this is the last computer games console cycle? Or is there one left?

Christmas was GOOD...

So as usual, Christmas was very good. The famo always deliver and yesterday was no exception. This year was spent at my gran parents house in north London. Loads of famo there, loads of food (I had wayyyyyyyy to much chocolate).

There was a late start to Christmas this year as everyone seemed to go to bed late so I woke up at like 11am. Then spent 30 mins on the laptop making an effort to get out of bed and get some breakkie. Eventually got to the present opening time, was my job as usual to separate the presents. And this year it seemed my Dad got the most which was surprising as he usually gets the least, he had a right touch this year.

Christmas this year was great for seeing peoples reactions to gifts. Got me mum Wii Fit Plus which she had spoken about wanting and it was very nice seeing her reaction to getting it as she really didn't know it was coming.

After the whole present thing headed to my grans and had a lovely feast. The same thing has happened in the last 2 Christmases, I get way to full way to quickly at dinner. But I powered through and ate most of it. Plate full of lamb, chicken, turkey, stuffing, rice, salad and potatoes.

The rest of the night consisted of playing random games such as charades, which was HILARIOUS. How some of the people guessed the right thing I will never know. For example, my mum holds up one finger and the first guess was Gold Finger, which was the right answer..I mean WTF, thats way to quick. She could have meant one, first word, or whatever, but they guessed straight away. Probably has something to do with being sisters lol.

After all this we got into some wii sports resort action was was jokes. I rinsed 5 people in a row at table tennis. I think I have only lost 3 times ever now. Then we moved to the best game speed slice, again I went 4-0 then let the others play. Its crazy how slow some peoples reaction times can be. The funniest was my brother vs my cousin Chae. My bro needed one more slice to win and was 3 ahead and the pressure got to him and he lost.

Then it came to bowling, 4 playing, me, my mum, my cousin Nicole and my other cousin Chad. Niceol ended with 101, Chad with 147, me with 148 and my mum with 188 WTF!!!!!!!!! It was like her second time ever playing, she did a slow mo bowl down the middle and got a strike or half strike like every time. I think she must have been practising when everyone was out the house.

All in all really nice crimbo and I hope to have more good one's like that in the future.

Avatar Movie Trailer...

Story:
The story’s protagonist, Jake Sully (Sam Worthington), is a former Marine who was wounded and paralyzed from the waist down in combat on Earth. Jake is selected to participate in the Avatar program, which will enable him to walk. Jake travels to Pandora, a lush jungle-covered extraterrestrial moon filled with incredible life forms, some beautiful, many terrifying. Pandora is also home to the Na’vi, a sentient humanoid race, who are considered primitive, yet are more physically capable than humans. Standing three meters tall (approximately 10 ft), with tails and sparkling blue skin, the Na’vi live in harmony with their unspoiled world. As humans encroach deeper into Pandora's forests in search of valuable minerals, the Na’vi unleash their formidable warrior abilities to defend their threatened existence.
Jake has unwittingly been recruited to become part of this encroachment. Since humans are unable to breathe the air on Pandora, they have created genetically-bred human-Na’vi hybrids known as Avatars. On Pandora, through his Avatar body, Jake can be whole once again. Sent deep into Pandora's jungles as a scout for the soldiers that will follow, Jake encounters many of Pandora's beauties and dangers. There he meets a young Na’vi female, Neytiri (Zoe SaldaƱa).
Over time, Jake integrates himself into the Na'vi clan, and begins to fall in love with Neytiri. As a result, Jake finds himself caught between the military-industrial forces of Earth and the Na’vi, forcing him to choose sides in an epic battle that will decide the fate of an entire world.

Do Really Rappers Wear Skinny Jeans??...

Interesting lil article I came across. It's really crazy how times have changed. You don't see much of the crazy baggy pants in hip hop anymore, especially from the new wave of rappers. And its not all necessarily 'skinny' jeans but people wearing straights or whatever. I've never been a big fan of the baggy jeans movement as I just find them a hassle and they generally look ridiculous.

Since rap exploded beyond its native New York in the mid-80s, its most consistent must-have fashion item has been a good pair of baggy jeans. Whether in Los Angeles, New Orleans, Atlanta, Minneapolis, Brooklyn, Tokyo or Paris, wide-legged jeans hanging around the hips or lower were a sure-fire sign of someone’s listening habits and cultural inclinations. Lately, though, a set of young rappers whose most unifying trait is obsessive fashion savvy is starting to rock tight jeans. The resulting fashion rift is a symptom of a larger cultural cycle whereby the rappers who made their name in the 90s are slowly losing touch with the kids. The conflict is becoming so heated that Southern California duo The New Boyz titled their September 15 debut Skinny Jeans and a Mic. On the opening track, they make the terms of the disagreement plainly clear: “Jeans stay skinny like I starve my fabric… hey, another damn thing/you’ll never see me care about another man’s jeans.”

The stakes of the jeans debate have escalated since Pharrell Williams, Kanye West and Lupe Fiasco—the style’s most high-profile purveyors in hip hop—made the switch to skinny. As Skillz taunted in reference to Kanye on his annual rap-up song for 2008: “Is it hard to fight paparazzi when you got on skinny jeans?” Joe Budden, meanwhile, posted a bizarre video from the road last year in which he interviewed an employee at the Ramada Inn in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan about his skinny jeans for about three minutes, explaining that “hip hop is doing the tight jeans thing right now, and these are the next biggest things in hip hop.” For the rappers who’ve been signed in the wake of Kanye and Lupe’s success, tapered denim is a marker of youth. As much-hyped Washington D.C. rapper Wale put it on the intro to “W.A.L.E.D.A.N.C.E.” from his 2007 mixtape 100 Miles and Running: “I used to be on them nice, high quality, raw denim, shrinked-to-fit Levi’s/they be like ‘them jeans too tight yo’/and now you know niggas trying to wear they shrink-to-fits.” On “Wonder Why” off Wale’s most recent mixtape, Back to the Feature, another up-and-comer, Big Sean, acknowledges the cultural conflict engendered by the wearing of tight jeans: “Skinny jeans but a nigga still ‘hood.”

Most 90s and early-aughts rappers who’ve weighed in on the subject, though, see ‘hood identity as fundamentally incompatible with the wearing of skinny jeans, which they’ve basically conflated with being either too feminine, completely queer, or something in between. When Jay-Z first mentioned the issue on “Swagger Like Us” off T.I.’s 2008 album Paper Trails, he didn’t seem opposed to the trend, just uninterested: “Can't wear skinny jeans cause my knots don't fit/no one on the corner got a pocket like this/so I rock Roc jeans cause my knots so thick.” Tight jeans, you understand, prohibit the pocketing of large amounts of cash, which in rap is basically like being impotent.

Chamilionaire helpfully literalizes the metaphor on “Swagga Like Koop” off last year’s Mixtape Messiah 5: “Let me start like this/tried to put on skinny jeans and couldn't zip my zip/nah, let me be blunt real quick/I don't wear skinny jeans 'cause my dick don't fit.” Ever the moderator, Jay-Z translates the sentiment into less crass, more confrontational terms on “D.O.A. (Death of Autotune)” from Blueprint 3: “You niggas' jeans too tight/you colors too bright, your voice too light.”

That statement handed down from hip hop’s incumbent president seems to have opened the flood gates. Sheek Louch echoes the sentiment on the remix to Jadakiss’s “Who’s Real”: “Yeah, you real and you know it, take the skinny jeans back/take the Auto-Tune off and stop actin’ all soft.”

Crooked I leads the conflict in a different, more insightful direction on “Sound Off” from Slaughterhouse’s self-titled debut, where he gets at the crux of the problem: “You rappers chasin’ popularity by any means doin’ silly things/buyin’ too many size 20 skinny jeans.” Wearing tight pants is a way for rappers to be popular with their listeners (among whom skinny jeans are increasingly the norm), which of course is pretty much exactly what hip hop is about.

Besides, pro-baggy rappers making the claim that skinny jeans are somehow antithetical to hip hop culture should look back at the hot streetwear from the days of the genre’s genesis. Not that an appeal to origins will solve this debate—rap is about newness—but simply to say that rap style wasn’t always about baggy jeans and rappers resisting its next evolution are starting to sound a lot like grumpy old cranks. Wale hits the nail on the head rapping on “The Sun”: “So they threw me in the skinny jeans crew/’cause I rap about shit that the people really do.” In a culture that places as much value on style as it does on music, the debate over tight jeans seems poised to become more and more polarizing as the generation gap widens.
